Discovering God in the valleys

Do you sometimes find yourself in a valley of despair, defeat, or depression?

In fact, valleys are a normal part of the Christian life. The key is recognising that God is closer than you think.

Valleys can be places of revelation.

Elijah ended up in the Kerith Ravine when he was fleeing King Ahab and Queen Jezebel. And there, God showed him how much he cared by providing free food and water.

Valleys can also be places of victory.

King David walked through the valley of the shadow of death with God in Psalm 23. But he enjoyed a victory feast and a fresh anointing on the other side.

Note - he walked through that valley. He didn't find another route or turn around and go back.

Valleys can also be places of refreshing.

Joel 3:18 says that God's fountain will water the valley of acacias. Joel was referring to Shittim, one of the world’s driest places. Yet God still watered it.

So, if you’re in a valley, look out for Father God. Psalm 23:4 says he will be there to comfort you.

A valley isn’t a cave without an exit.
